Bus accidents can and do destroy lives. At Lenahan & Dempsey, our veteran accident lawyers are here to help. We have recovered Hundreds and Hundreds of Millions of Dollars for our seriously injured clients and when you come to us, we pledge to listen to you, return your calls and vigorously protect your rights.
Those hurt in bus crashes are uniquely exposed to serious injury. Buses seldom have seat belts or other safety equipment; and not all buses are kept in the best possible condition when it comes to tires, brakes, or repairs. Also, a shortage of experienced drivers has many inexperienced operators behind the wheel of buses.
Under Pennsylvania law, common carriers (those licensed to carry passengers) must use the highest standards of care in the operation and maintenance of their vehicles and of course in the transportation of their passengers.
Unfortunately, as we have seen time and time again with clients who come to Lenahan & Dempsey for help, many bus companies fail to meet this important required standard.
When clients come to us for help after a serious bus crash, we look at a variety of factors that can help us get you the best possible results, including:
- Duty of Care: Bus drivers and bus companies owe you a high standard of duty of care. They are expected to operate the bus in a safe manner and follow traffic laws.
- Negligence: If during the course of our investigation, the bus driver or bus company is found to have been negligent and caused the accident, they may be held liable for your injuries. This could include medical expenses, lost wages, lost earning capacity, pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, scarring and disfigurement, loss of consortium, and other losses
- Insurance: Bus companies are required to carry insurance to cover accidents involving their vehicles.

Statute of Limitations
In Pennsylvania, as a general rule, a lawsuit for a personal injury case as a result of a motor vehicle crash must be filed within two years from the date the crash.
If you have been involved in a bus accident, it is important to contact our office immediately so that we can conduct a timely investigation into the facts and circumstances of your case, including interviewing witnesses and making sure critical evidence is preserved, and so that you do not lose your right to sue based upon time limits.
